London: A. Beli, Bookseller, Aldgate, 1773. The full title is Poems on Various Subjects, Religious and Moral, by Phillis Wheatley, Negro Servant to Mr. John Wheatley of Boston, in New England. The frontispiece image of Wheatley is by her friend Scipio Moorhead. The first published book of poems by an African-American and the second by an American woman, it is published in England. Wheatley is subsequently unable to find an American publisher.
